Online Tajweed Course for Kids & Adults
Learn the rules of Tajweed and apply them to your own recitation, in live one-to-one Tajweed classes on Zoom with a qualified teacher.
Learn Quran with Tajweed, one-to-one
Tajweed is the set of rules for reciting the Quran correctly: where each letter is pronounced from, how letters affect each other, and how long to hold each sound. Our online Tajweed course teaches these rules and, more importantly, applies them to your recitation. In each class you recite, the teacher listens and corrects you there and then, so the rules become habit rather than theory.
Because the classes are one-to-one, the course starts from your level. A child who has just finished the Qaida and an adult who has read the Quran for years but wants to fix old mistakes will follow different paths through the same rules.
Who the Tajweed course is for
- Students who can already read the Quran and want to recite it correctly
- Kids who read fluently and need correct pronunciation before or during Hifz (Tajweed classes for kids are taught at a child's pace)
- Adults who want to correct long-standing mistakes in recitation
- Students who want to learn Tajweed with a male or female teacher
If you cannot read the Quran yet, start with our Quran reading classes; basic Tajweed is part of that course.
What you will learn in the Tajweed course
- Makharij: the points of articulation of every Arabic letter
- Sifaat: the qualities of the letters, including heavy and light letters
- Noon Sakinah and Tanween: izhar, idgham, iqlab and ikhfa
- Meem Sakinah rules and ghunnah
- Madd: the types of lengthening and how long to hold them
- Qalqalah, the rules of Ra and Lam, and stopping and starting correctly
Common recitation mistakes we correct
Most students who come to Tajweed classes have a few repeated mistakes: mixing up similar letters such as ح and ه or ث and س, making heavy letters light, cutting a madd short, or skipping the ghunnah. In one-to-one classes the teacher picks out your own mistakes and works on them first, instead of going through rules you already apply correctly.
How the online Tajweed classes work
Classes are live and one-to-one on Zoom. Each lesson combines a short explanation of a rule with recitation practice, so most of the class is spent reciting with live correction. Choose 4 classes a week of 30 minutes, or 5 or 6 classes a week of 45 minutes, at times arranged in your own time zone (24/7 flexible timing). Teachers teach in English, Urdu and Arabic.
Progress and certificate
Your teacher tests you every week on the rules covered. Enrolled students (and parents of enrolled children) receive a monthly progress report on WhatsApp with classes attended, rules and surahs covered, Tajweed and fluency scores, and the teacher's notes. Students who complete the course receive a certificate.
Many students combine Tajweed with surah memorization or continue to the online Hifz program. See plans and prices on the fees page.
Online Tajweed Course: questions parents ask
Can I learn Tajweed on my own?
You can learn the rules from books and videos, but it is hard to hear your own mistakes. A teacher listens to your recitation and corrects it during the lesson, which is the main reason students learn Tajweed one-to-one.
How long does it take to learn Tajweed?
It depends on your starting level, how many classes you take each week and how much you practise. After the free trial your teacher can suggest a realistic plan for you.
Is there an online Tajweed course with a certificate?
Yes. Students who complete our Tajweed course receive a certificate.
Do you teach Tajweed to kids?
Yes. Tajweed classes for kids are taught one-to-one at the child's pace, with short explanations and plenty of recitation practice.
Can I choose a male or female Tajweed teacher?
Yes. We have male and female Quran teachers. Choose your preference on the free trial form.
