Noorani Qaida & Nazra

Online Quran Reading Classes for Kids & Adults

Learn to read the Quran from the first Arabic letter to fluent reading from the mushaf, in live one-to-one classes on Zoom with a qualified teacher.

Learn to read the Quran online, step by step

Our Quran reading course is for children and adults who cannot read the Quran yet, or who read slowly and with mistakes. Beginners start with the Noorani Qaida, the standard first book that teaches the Arabic letters, their sounds and how they join. When the basics are secure, students move on to Nazra: reading the Quran itself, page by page, with correct pronunciation.

Every class is one-to-one. The teacher listens to the student read, corrects mistakes during the lesson and moves on only when a lesson is secure. For families in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, where a reliable Quran teacher nearby is often hard to find, online Quran classes bring the teacher into your home at a time that fits your week.

Who this course is for

  • Kids starting from zero, including children who do not know the Arabic alphabet yet
  • Children who began at a mosque or weekend school and need regular practice during the week
  • Adults and beginners who never learned to read the Quran, or want to start again in a private class
  • Students who prefer a male or female teacher

What students learn

Stage 1: Noorani Qaida (beginners)

  • The Arabic alphabet: letter shapes and their correct sounds
  • Joining letters and reading the joined forms
  • Harakat (fatha, kasra, damma), tanween, sukoon and shaddah
  • Long vowels (madd letters) and reading short words and phrases

Stage 2: Nazra (reading the Quran)

  • Reading directly from the Quran, starting with short surahs
  • Building fluency until the student reads longer passages on their own
  • Basic Tajweed rules applied while reading, and the stopping signs

Alongside reading, our packages include Namaz (Salah), daily Duas and Kalmas.

How the online Quran reading classes work

Classes are live and one-to-one on Zoom, and your child can join from a phone, tablet or laptop. Choose 4 classes a week of 30 minutes, or 5 or 6 classes a week of 45 minutes. Class times are arranged in your own time zone (timing is flexible, 24/7). Teachers teach in English, Urdu and Arabic.

Not sure how many classes a week your child needs? During the free trial the teacher checks your child's current level and suggests a pace. You can see all plans on the fees page.

How progress is checked

Students are tested every week on what they have read. Once your child is enrolled, you also receive a monthly progress report on WhatsApp: classes attended, Qaida lessons or Quran pages covered, Tajweed and fluency scores, and the teacher's notes. Students who complete the course receive a certificate.

After reading fluently, many students continue with the online Tajweed course, surah memorization classes or the Hifz program.

Quran Reading Classes (Noorani Qaida & Nazra): questions parents ask

At what age should a child start learning to read the Quran?

Many children start the Noorani Qaida at around 4 to 6 years old, once they can sit and focus for a short lesson. There is no fixed rule. In the free trial the teacher checks whether your child is ready and suggests a suitable class length.

How long does it take to learn to read the Quran?

It depends on the student's age, how many classes they take each week and how much they practise between classes. After the trial, the teacher can give you an estimate for your child, and you can follow progress in the weekly tests and the monthly report.

Can adults learn to read the Quran online?

Yes. Adults are very welcome, and the class is private and one-to-one, so you learn at your own pace. One of our students started in his 30s and can now read many chapters of the Quran with correct pronunciation.

What is the difference between Noorani Qaida and Nazra?

Noorani Qaida is the beginner book that teaches the Arabic letters and how to join them. Nazra means reading the Quran itself by looking at the text. Students complete the Qaida first and then move on to Nazra.

Do you have male and female Quran teachers?

Yes. We have male and female Quran teachers, so girls and women can learn with a female teacher. Choose your preference on the free trial form.
